I am a Department of Justice and NRA Certified Pistol Instructor who lives at the intersection of progressive, practical, and tactical. BEPC exists for Women, BIPOC, and Queer folks—those of us who feel vulnerable due to antisemitism and Islamophobia, and all forms of intimidation and hate. We are here for those considering a firearm for the first time, as well as for new gun owners looking to learn through our firearm safety courses, including the NRA New Shooter Seminar and our pistol orientation courses. I specialize in New Shooter seminars and Basic Pistol courses designed to provide access, confidence, and competence to those who may be hesitant about firearms and the world around us. We are Queer/BIPOC owned and operated.

A California Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) is a mandatory document required to purchase or acquire handguns and long guns in California. Applicants must pass a 30-question written test from a DOJ Certified Instructor (that's me : ), which is valid for five years. The test covers safety rules, laws, and handling, making it an essential part of firearm safety courses. Typically, the test is offered at firearms stores, but now you can take the FSC test in a garden! For those seeking additional training, consider attending the NRA New Shooter Seminar or enrolling in pistol orientation courses to further enhance your skills.

The NRA New Shooter Seminar is an off-range experience designed for those considering a firearm and new gun owners, regardless of NRA affiliation. This seminar introduces participants to the fundamentals of firearm safety, firearms ownership, and basic shooting concepts, making it one of the essential firearm safety courses available. Attendees will leave equipped with the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to promote safety, competence, and confidence as new gun owners. Following this, participants will receive an on-range introduction to ammunition, range etiquette, and the fundamentals of pistol shooting. Additionally, students will gain knowledge on pistol cleaning and safe storage practices. Upon completion, each participant will receive an NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook and an NRA FIRST Steps Pistol Orientation Completion Certificate. This seminar runs for a minimum of 5 hours.

The Basic Pistol course is one of the essential firearm safety courses that equip students with a thorough understanding of the Basics of Pistol Shooting. Through the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course, we introduce students to the necessary knowledge, skills, attitude and intentions for safe pistol ownership and use. Our curriculum emphasizes safety, gun handling, the different types of pistols, proper pistol cleaning, and storage techniques. Additionally, we cover the fundamentals of pistol marksmanship and various pistol firing positions, engaging in several practical exercises on the firing range. This course typically lasts a full 8-hour day and serves as a perfect complement to the NRA New Shooter Seminar and other pistol orientation courses.

I won Best Shot at Camp Mendocino when I was 9 years old. I didn’t seriously begin shooting again until 2017 when I purchased my first firearm, a Glock 17 G3. Since then I have become an even more skilled marksman (than when I was 9 :), become a card carrying member of a Rod and Gun club, and have become a Department of Justice and National Rifle Association Pistol Instructor.
My day job is as a non-profit CEO. And while I am a skilled leader, great strategic planner, and can coordinate the heck out of disconnected parts, I also believe in having durable, analog skills to share with others who seek them. Both as a CEO and Instructor, I work in service of others, and deeply believe in sharing vital resources.
